John Callahan was a well-known cartoonist, writer, and songwriter from Portland, Oregon. Unfortunately, the world is without new jokes, cartoons, books and songs from Callahan after he passed away in 2010.
He was known for his sometimes dark humor that came after a car accident left him unable to walk or use his hands. He drew his funny, but dark cartoons by holding a pen in his mouth. He was able to use his hands to draw after intensive therapy. He was an alcoholic before his accident but gave up drinking after the accident.
Never trying to be politically correct, Callahan told it as he saw it and held nothing back with his politically incorrect cartoons. He made fun of everyone and everything and got lots of hate mail from offended readers of his sometimes mean jokes. Some say he made rude cartoons, but that was what he felt like drawing and no one could stop him. It was said that all who knew him loved him and those that hated him didn’t know him.
